WINTER LECTURE SERIES - Olivia Slocum Sage: Philanthropy, Activism, and Sag Harbor

PEOPLE WHO MADE A DIFFERENCE: GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Lucia Akard will speak about Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage (Mrs. Russell Sage), an activist for women's rights and philanthropist who funded, among other things, the John Jermain Public Library and Pierson High School. Her husband died in 1906 and left her $63 million, which she used to fund women's colleges and establish the Russell Sage Foundation, which continues to support research in the social sciences.
