On Sunday, August 9, 2020, at 7 PM EST Oscilloscope will host a virtual screening of a documentary about the legendary Belgian designer, Martin Margiela: In His Own Words.
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Margiela moved to Paris kicking off stints at Jean Paul Gaultier and Hermès before establishing Maison Martin Margiela; he subsequently influenced the global fashion scene with ground-breaking designs while maintaining a very low profile; he has never given an interview and remains backstage after his shows. His ultra-discreet trademark consists of a piece of cloth with the numbers 0-23.
The screening of the documentary will be followed by a Q&A with director Reiner Holzemer, moderated by Dana Thomas, author of Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion, Future or Clothes, and screenwriter of Salvatore – Shoemaker Of Dreams.
Guests will be encouraged to invite friends & family to watch it within the safety of their own home while adhering to their local health guidelines; this will also help raise awareness for the research efforts led by amfAR’s Fund to Fight COVID-19.
Event tickets are $100 for private access, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to amfAR.
In addition, Perrier-Jouët Champagne will provide guests with a special gift to help you host your own private screening.
On Friday, August 14th the documentary will be released via Virtual Cinema which partners with theaters and fashion world partners. This will be the first public availability of the film in the US.
