Want to help the Hamptons environment by riding in an electric car?  Find hunting for a parking spot as you’re heading somewhere special out East just a drag? Free ride which is free saves time and energy as it speeds you to your favorite hotspots in a gas-free electric shuttle.

Free Ride is free.  Book a ride through the mobile app which will debut in East Hampton and Montauk; however, by mid-June it will be available in Southampton. Free Ride will be in operation in East Hampton and Southampton from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and in Montauk from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you plan to stay out late, find an alternate route because this service won’t be available late-night.

Car Service Apps

There are plenty of car service apps (uber, lyft, taxi on hamptons). It’s simple to use, download the app, enter your destination and request your ride. The one difference is Uber has more car options than Lyft so be sure to consider luggage and total guests as you choose the car that will make your ride the most enjoyable.

Car Rental

A third option is to rent a car from the airport or from the location where you are starting your trip.

Local Buses

There is local bus transportation but the schedule intervals are too long if you’re in a hurry. The Suffolk County Transit buses serve the following areas:

  • S92– Orient Point Ferry Dock on the North Fork through all the villages from Riverhead to East Hampton.
  • 10B– Local: East Hampton, Bridgehampton, Three Mile Harbor, Springs
  • 10C– Local: East Hampton, Amagansett, Hither Hills, Montauk Point Lighthouse, Montauk Village, Montauk Dock, Ditch Plains

For detailed local bus schedules, see the Suffolk County Transit Buses
