Captain Henry Green, Long Island Whaler and Treasure Hunter
A lecture by Rosemary McKinley
September 9, 2018 from 2pm to 4pm at the Museum
200 Main Street, Sag Harbor, NY 11963
Author and storyteller Rosemary McKinley has dug deep into the life and whaling adventures of Captain Henry Green (1794-1873), who was born in Sag Harbor and went to sea for the first time aboard the ship Fair Helen in 1817. He worked his way up to captain on many sailing vessels and achieved substantial wealth before ending his career. He kept a log book on his last voyage to California on the Sabina that tells so much about the man and life at sea.
The book is about the whaling industry as much as it is about this ordinary man who led an extraordinary life.
The author has been doing presentations at historical societies, libraries, museums and book stores.
