Did Timberlake Cry?
Justin Timberlake pleaded guilty to impaired driving on September 13, which resolved his case following his arrest in June in Sag Harbor. The pop star entered his plea in person in Sag Harbor Village Court. The judge sentenced Timberlake to a $500 fine, a $260 surcharge, 25 hours of community service at a non-profit of his choice, and a requirement that he film a public safety announcement.
Following the sentencing, Timberlake spoke to a throng outside: “Many of you have probably been covering me for a lot of my life, and as you may know, I try to hold myself to a very high standard for myself, and this was not that,” he said.
“I found myself in a position where I could have made a different decision, but I have had some time to reflect on that.”
“And so, what I’d like to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you’ve had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel of a car. There’s so many alternatives. Call a friend, take an Uber, there are many travel apps. Take a taxi. This is a mistake that I made, but I’m hoping that whoever’s watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake. Even one drink. Don’t take a car.”
Then he said, and at this point he reached up and brushed something from his eye:
“I grew up in a small town. So I can appreciate and understand the strain and unique nature this has been on the people of Sag Harbor, everyone in the courtroom, to everyone outside, including the police department, I thank them.”
Timberlake grew up in Millington, TN. then a town of 20,000 people, 17 miles north of Memphis, TN. Maybe mentioning his small town brought tears to his eye. It’s possible thanking the police made his eyes smart. It’s also possible something got in his eye.
No tears were visible. What was visible was a double strand of pearls. What’s up with that?
As regards Timberlake’s public service duties, a source told the New York Post, “He would be doing stuff like sorting documents [for a court clerk], organizing files.” The source also said that the Timberlake will be making the decision whether he wants to do the public service in his home state of Tennessee, in California or in New York. Timberlake’s next stop on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour heads to Buffalo on the 21st. . . .
Bethenny Frankel Sells a House
Bethenny Frankel and her daughter, Bryn, moved into a new home she bought on Shinnecock Bay in Southampton for $5.4 million. According to the Robb Report, it has a private beach.
But Frankel already has a home in the Hamptons. Best known for her stints on Real Housewives of New York (and for selling her SkinnyGirl line of low-calorie cocktails and mocktails for $100 million), Frankel purchased her house on Lumber Lane in Bridgehampton for $2 million in 2012. Then she bought a small house on the neighboring property for $650,000.
She also has residences in Greenwich, CT, in South Florida and in Manhattan. But two homes in the Hamptons? That’s one house in the Hamptons too many. She has thus listed her shingled house on Lumber Lane with Noble Black and Erica Grossman of Douglas Elliman for $6 million.
Jean Shafiroff Does Fashion Week
Southampton resident Jean Shafiroff was on the move during New York Fashion Week. The fashionista began by attending FIT’s Couture Council luncheon. On September 5, accompanied by her dog Rosita, she walked the runway of the Second Annual Cat Walk Fur Baby event.
She was enthusiastic about Frederick Anderson’s show, and had raves for Dennis Basso’s designs.
She attended Nabys Vielman’s show, where she wore a custom Nabys gown with a Cattleya mossiae orchid (the native flower of Venezuela). Shafiroff had featured Vielman on her television show “Successful Philanthropy,” for the generous time he gave to others in his native country. As he said, “People think philanthropy is money, but is can also be time.”
She also went to the Malan Breton show, and attended a showing of his film. Then finished the week as a model, walking for Ese Azenabor at the top of Rockefeller Center. Whew. A whirlwind.
