GO TO A BRUNCH OR BID ON SOMETHING FUN

By Linda Lee —

There is a glamorous brunch scheduled for Saturday, June 22, in Water Mill, so hurry, This is one you can buy your way into. Here’s another reason to mark June 22 on your calendar, and there’s no worry about the traffic in Water Mill. Bidding on a silent auction with a dazzling array of objects, trips, events and gift baskets ends tomorrow at 4 pm as well.

He had an older brother and mothers in England and the U.S. Every opportunity was open to him. Framcesco died at 17. (Photo supplied.)

Both of these are for Francesco’s Foundation, a 501{c}3 dedicated to the memory of Francesco Cochran, who committed suicide in 2021 on Little Plains Beach in Southampton. After having had a girlfriend when he was at the prestigious and venerable Winchester boarding school in England, he had a boyfriend when he came back to America. He was intelligent, articulate, and not afraid to discuss his opinions in school or in posts about sexuality. He was often ridiculed at Stony Brook Prep, and bullied online. He was 17 when he was able to grab a shotgun in a moment of despair and end what was clearly a promising life.

Skiing in British Columbia looks awfully good right now. The suggested bid is $6,000, but the package includes airfare and five days at Whistler Mountain. The online auction, which, reminder, ends at 4 pm on June 22, includes a ski trip to British Columbia, five days and four nights at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler resort, $600 in lift tickets, round-trip airfare for two, and airport transfers but no meals other than breakfast. Then again, the village of Whistler has 170 dining options, including the ones on the top, middle and bottom of the mountain. Opening bid, $6,000.

Or how about luxury travel consultations. Did you ever take an exotic trip only to find out that you missed a once-in-a-lifetime event or gob-smacking site, just a mile away? Not with Lavon Luxury Travel. For a starting bid of roughly $2,500, Lavon will provide what they estimate as $20,000 of advice over three months for, say, that destination wedding you are planning in a foreign country. Sounds worth it, right?

A six-person fishing experience anywhere off the continental United States, for four hours. Suggested opening bid, $1,800.

From paintings to sweaty workout sessions and beauty baskets, some of  the items (there are a staggering 47) have starting bids as low as $55, others as high as $6,250. Yes, that’s more than the ski trip to British Columbia, and it’s for something right here in New York. You will have to go to the auction site to find out.

Wouldn’t this look nice in the game room? It’s by Jose Tate. No, we’ve never heard that artist’s name either. Opening bid, $1,600. Maybe it’s a discovery!

What is Francesco’s Foundation? Francesco’s mothers, Diana Cochran and her partner, Jennifer Allsop, started it two years after his death, with three goals in mind. You can read our story about their first event here. They wanted to promote gun safety, in particular the safe storage of guns in the home; to reduce bullying of LGBTQIA individuals, especially the young and vulnerable, and to educate parents and teachers about the dangers of cyber bullying and the risks of online harassment. To that end Francesco’s Foundation has also had several events in June in the Hamptons.

There is one left: the brunch on Saturday. It’s called the Interactive Brunch. What’s interactive is merchandize and your pocketbook. Nonetheless, if you like to shop. and go out and see people, it’s a party. Of sorts. General admission tickets are $295. And this year the beneficiary is Francesco’s Foundation.

Entry begins at noon and besides gourmet food stations and liberally poured libations. The DeLola cocktails  they are pouring — that’s JLo’s brand of “lite” 11 percent booze. Don’t be fooled. It adds up. The Interactive part also offers makeup and wellness treatments, trunk shows, a red carpet and a promised “loaded” gift bag (expect lots of samples!). Proceedings end at 3 pm. Then, Fr

The summer solstice sun will be merciless, so wear something on your head. But temperatures in the Hamptons will be cooler than back in the city.
