Crow’s Nest Montauk

Picture this.

It’s a balmy, breezy summer evening and the golden orange and yellow hues sparkle, dazzling the eye as you gaze across picturesque Lake Montauk watching sailboats drift leisurely by. You’re relaxing at a rustic oak table with friends, drinking in the magical view that’s inspired many an artist on the East End. Let the day slip away as you sip a cocktail and nibble on fresh, handmade whipped ricotta with local Lavender honey or east coast oysters with green apple jalapeno, two favorite appetizers on the inventive menu.

You’re dining at Crow’s Nest Restaurant & Inn, a serene rural getaway tucked away off a twisty road bordering the lake near Montauk Point. Bustling with quirky bohemianism and old-world charm, the curated details – reclaimed rafters, barn siding, and distinctive wood – create a mood of laid-back luxury with a beachy twist.

Crow’s Nest’s dinner menu features farm to table selections of seasonal and organic Mediterranean-inspired cuisine ranging from spectacularly fresh seafood, black sea bass and day boat scallops to grilled chicken kababs and grass-fed ribeye. Sink your teeth into local lobster tagliatelle, braised Australian lamb, or a tasty mezzo platter brimming with baba ghanoush, olives, artichokes, and feta. Complete your meal with a sublime dessert, indulge in pistachio cake, citrus tart, or flourless chocolate budino.

After dinner, as the evening sun disappears below the horizon, make your way across the lush green lawn to your cozy cottage or charming room at the Inn with private access to Lake Montauk. The hotel features 14 standard kings and a three-bedroom cottage (for 6 guests, three king size beds) on site. There is a separate collection of eight cottages ranging in size from studios to a three bedroom on an adjacent property.

The Crow’s Nest opens at 4:30 pm seven nights a week. No reservations are accepted. Arrive early to avoid long waits. Sip a Watermelon Cooler or a Lemon Verbena Old Fashioned at the beach bar as evening falls. The twilight time view is gorgeous and if you’re lucky, there will be a special appearance by a family of swans.
