The Wildlife Rescue Center Celebrates Get Wild

By Katlean de Monchy–

The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center is in East Quogue, and their galas are among the most fun in the Hamptons. This year they honored Michael Hayes for his work in animal rescue of all kinds, especially his concern for senior dogs. This was their 16th annual fund raiser, and, as usual starred some of the birds that had been rescued, among them an owl and a raptor, birds unable to return to the wild.

The event chairs for this year’s benefit were Ingrid Edelman, Jane Gill, Missy Hargraves, Jonathan McCann and Lisa Baron Schenker. The emcee for the event was award-winning animal advocate Jill Rappaport.

Guests were treated to live music from special musical guests Taylor Barton and G.E. Smith, cocktails, light fare, and a silent auction.  Jeffrey Colle contributed a safari  to Buffalo Kloof in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province, which had multiple bids.

Among the guests were Chuck Scarborough and Beth Stern, the wife of Howard Stern — the Sterns are enthusiastic cat owners and fosterers.
